Food Bank distributes food in St. Elmo

-A A +A

The Central Illinois Food Bank returned to Fayette County on April 26.

This visit was funded by the St. Elmo Lions Club and Fayette County Farm Bureau, and Pinnacle Foods of St. Elmo again provided the use of their parking lot, a fork lift and food items.
Volunteers helping with the Food Bank distribution included Pinnacle Foods employees, St. Elmo Lions Club members, Fayette County Farm Bureau Board members and Soroptimist of Vandalia. Rural King Supply provided grocery carts.
More than 9,500 pounds of food in the form of potatoes, oranges, apples, cereal, onions, popcorn, candy bars and bakery items were distributed to 157 households.   This distribution helped 226 children under the age of 18 and 90 seniors over 60.
The Fayette County Farm Bureau hopes to be able to bring the Food Bank back to St. Elmo for another visit later in the year.  Matching funds of $1,100 are required for each food bank visit.
Tax-deductible donations may be sent to: Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation, P.O. Box 189, Vandalia, Ill. 62471; or Central Illinois Food Bank, P.O. Box 8228, Springfield, Ill. 62791.  Both organizations are 501(c)3 organizations.
Donors are asked to write Fayette County on the memo line of their donation checks.  This will ensure that all donated funds are used for Fayette County.
