Flora wins Vandalia Holiday Tournament; Vandals take third
The Flora Wolves are now eight-time champions of the Vandalia Holiday Tournament after dispatching Pana, 75-69, Thursday night to win their second title in three years.
Tournament MVP Paul Knapp led the Wolves with 26 points during the game, and all-tournament selection Nick Painter added 17, despite having to sit on the bench with foul trouble for extended time periods.
All-tournament selections Jared McMillen and Mitchell Beyers led Pana in scoring, with 23 and 20 points, respectively.
In the third-place game, Vandalia defeated Greenville, 53-41, using a 31-10 run in the first half to establish its lead.
Senior Dathan Berning, an all-tournament selection, led the Vandals with 26 points, and junior Tim Ritchey added 15 points and seven rebounds, though he was passed over on the all-tournament team in favor of teammate Leyton Godoyo, a junior.
Dylan Bone had 16 points for Greenville, and he was an all-tournament selection.
All-tournament selection Connor Beasley grabbed 11 rebounds as St. Elmo just held on against Wesclin during the fifth-place game, which saw the Eagles earn a 53-52 win.
For Wesclin, Michael Klein, an all-tournament selection, had 14 points and 13 rebounds. He had 52 rebounds in the tournament, which ranks 19th all-time.
Altamont beat Stew-Stras, 65-57, for seventh place, and Shelbyville topped South Central, 42-33, for ninth place.
