Fire Reports-Jan. 20, 2011

• Vandalia firefighters were called at 10:24 p.m. last Wednesday to Travelodge, 1500 N. Eighth St., after a passerby noticed smoke coming from one of the room.
The fire was contained to a heating unit and chair, but the entire room sustained smoke and water damage. Fire officials estimated the damage at $15,000.
A maintenance employee occupied that room had left earlier in the evening.
The cause of the fire was undetermined.
Twenty-one firefighters responded, and they were at the scene for about 40 minutes.
• Vandalia firefighters were called at 6:12 p.m. last Thursday to the home of Ronald Daisley at Southview Estates, northwest of Vandalia off of Ill. Route 185.
According to fire reports, there was an electrical problem within a wall, but no fire.
Sixteen firefighters responded, and they were out for about 25 minutes.
