FCHD offering free program for women

The Fayette County Health Department is offering a free, 10-week educational program designed for women 18 and older to encourage healthy choices for a better quality of life.
The classes will be led by registered nurse Cindy Hof and will be held at the Fayette County Health Department, 416 W. Edwards St. in Vandalia from 6-7 p.m. each Monday evening from Jan. 28-April 8.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
The “Life Smart for Women” program will provide participants with skill-building tools, goal-setting and self-help tips to improve their health.
Discussion topics will include understanding the dimensions of health and risk factors nutrition, physical activity, coping with stress, dealing with tobacco, alcohol, drugs and violence, sexual health, aging well and healthy families.
Participants will also have the opportunity to evaluate their own personal risk factors for developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Regular program participants will receive a free cardiovascular screenings (lipid profile blood test), and many promotional items will be given, such as pill splitters, exercise bands, measuring cups and pedometers.
This program has been made possible by funds received from the Illinois Department of Public Health and Midland Area Agency on Aging.
