FCHD hosting women’s health seminar

The Fayette County Health Department is one of 14 health departments in Illinois to be awarded a mini-grant through the Illinois Department of Public Health to celebrate National Women’s Health Week in May.
Next Thursday, from noon-2 p.m., nationally acclaimed speaker Bark Bancroft will speak at the FCHD facilities on West Johnson Street in Vandalia on the topic of “Hormonal Chaos.”
During this free seminar, Bancroft will explain the role of hormones in women’s health, not just estrogen, but progesterone and testosterone, as well.
Estrogen has more than 300 functions and is, by far, the most important female hormone in terms of overall women’s health.
Bancroft discusses the function of the ovaries, as well as their demise in the menopausal female.
What are the latest findings on hormone replacement therapy? What are the actual risks of heart disease, breast cancer and Alzheimer’s? The risks and the benefits will be discussed.
Many county vendors will have tables at the health department for women to browse. They will be available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Many door prizes will be given away.
The FCHD will furnish free blood sugar and blood pressure testing to all participants.
Snacks will be provided.
Those planning to attend are asked to call the health department, 283-1044, by next Tuesday to register.
