Fayette County has been chosen to receive $20,003.00 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the County.
The selection was made by the National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities, and the United Way of America. The local board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county.
A local board made up of representatives from local government. Salvation Army, United Way, Catholic Charities and a former homeless person serves on the Montgomery County EFSP Board. The board is always looking for new members, if you would like to serve. The local board will determine how the funds will be spent in Montgomery County.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive the funds must be a private not-for-profit organization or a unit of locai government. They must have an accounting system, practice non-discrimination, and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs. Qualifying agencies are encouraged to apply.
C.E.F-S. Economic Opportunity Corporation distributed EFSP funds in the 2008 fiscaJ year. During the past year they provided rent assistance to 19 households, utilities assistance to 3 5 households and provided 1,172 meals with the EFSP funds.
The organizational meeting for this year will be held at the C.E.F.S. Fayette County Outreach office in Vandalia on February 19,2009 at 1:00 p.m. For additional information contact Ms. Wise at 618-283-2631 prior to the time of the meeting.
