FAYCO hosting autism program May 23

FAYCO Enterprises of Vandalia will be hosting on May 23 Dr. Temple Grandin, a woman with autism who has become one of the leading advocates for people with autism.

She also is widely known for her uncanny ability to understand and influence animals. She has used those special sensitivities to promote animal welfare and to revolutionize the treatment of cattle.
She holds a master’s degree in animal science from Arizona State University and a doctorate in animal science from the University of Illinois. Currently, she is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University.
The program on the 23rd will be held on the campus of Greenville College. It will include a social gathering with Grandin at 4:30 p.m. in Armington Center; several alternative therapy speakers at 6 p.m. in Crum Recreation Center; and a presentation by Grandin at 7 p.m., also in Crum Recreation Center.
Tickets to the combined program of “Alternative Therapy for the Intellectually Disabled” and the presentation by Grandin at $45. Tickets to the social with Grandin are sold separately and are $100 each.
Registration can be done online at: http://bit.ly/SuccessWithFAYCO.
Proceeds will go to FAYCO Enterprises and the FAYCO Foundation.
Grandin has become a strong advocate of the education of autistic children. She advocates early intervention and special training of teachers to help them support autistic students. She contends that her contributions to the field of animal welfare would not have been possible without the special abilities that result from her autism.
