CRP signup open through April 6
Signup is being held through April 6 at the Fayette County Farm Service Agency for the Conservation Reserve Program.
Land that is not currently enrolled in CRP may be offered. CRP participants with contracts expiring on Sept. 30 also may submit offers.
Eligible cropland must have been planted to an agricultural commodity during four of the six years from 2002 through 2007.
Eligible persons must own the land for 12 months before the end of the signup period, with the exception of inherited land.
CPR is a voluntary program that helps agricultural producers use environmentally sensitive land for conservation benefits. In return, FSA provides participants with rental payments and cost-share assistance. The contract duration is between 10 and 15 years.

Farm Bureau offers ATV safety courses
Fayette County Farm Bureau will be offering two programs on all-terrain vehicle safety on Saturday, March 24.
The program will be held at the Farm Bureau building on Sunset Drive in Vandalia.
The first program, from 9-11 a.m., is for students in grades four through eight and their parents.
The second program, from  noon to 2 p.m., will be for high schoolers.
Information to be covered will include Illinois ATV laws, proper gear, where riding is allowed, and an introduction to the basics of an ATV machine.
Information to be presented is from the Illinois State Police and the ATV Safety Organization.
The ATV safety program is sponsored by the Illinois Agricultural Association and Country Financial.
