From start to finish, we had a fun day at Evergreen Outreach on Monday. Pianist Donna Smith accompanied the Rev. Jim Fackler (assisted by Genelle Hachat) as he led the “Welcome" and "EO” songs.
We had first-time guests Sally Yarbrough and Mike Rush with us on Monday.
Refreshments – which included cookies donated by Barbara McCart – were served by volunteers Marie Sutton, Erna Wasmuth, Ginny Pratt, Ruth Ann Scott, Jeanne Schlicht, Eleanor McNutt and Debbie Lovall.
Birthday honorees were Henrietta Eggars, Amber Gathe, Sarah Laurie, Erma Cameron and Fackler.
Fackler's devotions were taken from Psalm 133. In part, that passage reads: “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!…For the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.”
He compared this to the fellowship at EO.
We sensed something special as we noticed sound equipment near the piano, and we were not disappointed. Decked out in silver tops, white capris and silver shoes were the Heartland Honeys: Gwen Ware, Carol Case, Ronda DeBridge and Ann Robinson from Farina; Robin Ruthland from Iuka; and Ruth Schnake, now in the Effingham area.
Their performance included line dancing to, “I’m Telling You,” “Put the Western Back in the Country,” “Ten Guitars,” “Somethin’ Stupid,” “Sold,” “Bossa Nova,” “I Want To Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart” and the always-requested, “Chicken Dance.”
We all look forward to their next appearance.
FAYCO has sent invitations to an open house and ribbon cutting for an Image Program. This will be at 1114 W. Jefferson next Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
In pinochle, John Hunsley and Shirley Locke tied with Rosamund Hobler and Jeanne Schlicht, with one game each.
Scheduled next week: leader, Beverly Hood; scripture, the Rev. Carl Rhodes; piano, Sandy Dothager; writer, Pat Rhodes; and special entertainment, Judy Varga and Randy Schukar.
A final note: You know you are having a bad day when you call home to say you would like to eat out tonight, and when you get home you find a sandwich on the front porch!
