Evergreen Outreach-Sept. 15, 2011

By Joyce Mueller
The season is changing, and many activities are competing for our time and attention. Schedules and routines are now in order.
As they entered Wesley Hall, Evergreen Outreach guests were greeted by the music of Donna Smith, who provided a variety of piano selections. She accompanied the Rev. Jim Fackler, who started the program with the “Welcome" and "E.O.” songs.
He recognized special first-time guests Julie and Angela from FAYCO, and also Carol and Oceana Rames, nieces of Dr. and Phyllis Rames. Carol is from Providence, R.I., and Oceana lives at Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
“Happy Birthday” was sung to Brad Elmore, Henrietta Eggar, Amber Gathe and Fackler.
Fackler touched on the 9/11 observance, and noted that similar happenings have occurred throughout history. Mistrust of people falls in different ways; among them are: intolerance of gender and color, suspicion and judging beforehand.
Even on the cross, Jesus forgave. Fackler referred to Matthew 18:21-22: “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but 70 times seven.”
Also in John 15:12-13: “My commandment is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
Fackler concluded with, “Teach us to forgive as we have been forgiven. Jesus’ love was beyond our understanding.”
Sharing the special entertainment segment were Judy Varga and Randy Schukar. Judy opened with “God Had Another Plan” and Randy selected “Ring of Fire,” You’re Always on My Mind,” “Elvira” and “The Gambler.”
Judy continued with “Rockin' Robin,” “Coal Miner's Daughter,” “Crazy” and the “Chicken Dance” (the favorite of the group). Several guests participated and were having a great time.
Next, Randy selected “Hey, Good Lookin,” “Heartaches by the Number,” and “Kiss an Angel Good Morning.”
They concluded with the “Tennessee Waltz.”
In the pinochle corner, Rosamund Hobler and Peggy Lippold won two games over John Hunsley and Richard Kruenegel's one.
Scheduled next week are: Beverly Hood, leader; Carl Rhodes, scripture; Sandy Dothager, pianist; Pat Rhodes, writer; and special entertainment by the Heartland Honeys.
Final note: Andrea Tate will be greatly missed at Evergreen. She was a resident of FAYCO. We extend our sympathy to her family.
CARPE DIEM (seize the day).
