Evergreen Outreach Nov. 24

Chilly, gray days seem much brighter with holiday happenings. Nowhere are there more inspired people than our Evergreen Outreach volunteers and guests, who now are anticipating the upcoming day of Thanksgiving.
Our holiday program began with Bernie Ray at the piano. Some of her selections included: "Beautiful Ohio," "Now is the Hour," "Pearly Shells," "Harbor Lights" and "Release Me."
Leader Beverly Hood continued, leading the group in the "EO" and "Welcome" songs. She was assisted by Cindy Jarrett, Genelle Hachat and Lynette Wise.
Devotions were presented by the Rev. Tom Farris, pastor of First Church of God. He selected scripture from Philippians 4:8, which says:
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things."
He added: "Think about positive things. They will outweigh the negative ones. God will show us the way."
"Happy Birthday" was sung in honor of the following people, who are celebrating birthdays: Annie Ledbetter, Phyllis Hartwick, Linda Marie Francisco, Ruth Reeter and Wade Levy.
Greg Starnes, administrator of Fayette County Hospital, provided the entertainment. He started by leading everyone in a round of applause for the volunteers.
By request, his first song was, "If I Had a Hammer," followed by "Has Anybody Seen My Gal?," "Mrs. Robinson," "Wagon Wheel," "The Last Farewell," and "Slip, Sliding Away."
His next selection was a trilogy of "Dixie," "Shenandoah" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." He closed with "Life is a Pathway to Heaven" and "Stop and Smell the Roses."
In pinochle, Richard Kruenegel and Wolf  Schlicht won two games to Shirley Locke and Peggy Lippold's one.
Scheduled for next week are: Cindy Hunter, leader; Dr. Roger Grimmett, scripture; Mary Woolsey, writer; and SoftFire, entertainment.
My final note is an HCE quote: "Always do right. This will gratify some and astonish the rest!"
