Evergreen Outreach, Dec. 30, 2010

By Edith Elliott

Evergreen Outreach met in the Long Term Care dining room of the Fayette County Hospital this week, and to quote a guest from Long Term Care, Brad Elmore, it was the best Christmas program he had ever attended.
A big part of the Christmas party was our duet from Hillsboro, Patricia and David Pence.
They started at 1 p.m. with “Come All You Faithful,” followed by a sing-a-long, “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear,” “Oh Holy Night,” “What Child Is This” and “Silver Bells.”
They play many different instruments and their voices blend beautifully. They played and sang intermittingly throughout the program.
Cindy Hunter’s daughter, Ronnie Scherer, filled in as leader today for Cindy and did a great job!
She went around the room, enthusiastically recognizing the different guests with a big “hello” – Vandalia Rehab, Long Term Care, Randolph House, Sweetbriar and a special guest, Dr. Don Rames.
Susan Schumacher gave the devotional taking her text from Luke 2:21. She answered the question, “What happened to Jesus in the days after He was born?”
When Jesus was 8 days old, Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple where he was circumcised.
Joseph was warned in a dream to stay there for safety. When Jesus was 12 they traveled to Jerusalem for the feast of the passover.
It took three days to realize Jesus was not with them on their return journey home. One might exclaim over the three days, but in those days, men traveled with men and women with women and it is assumed that Joseph thought Jesus was with Mary and vice versa.
Upon finding Jesus in the temple, he asked them, “Why did you seek me? I must be about my father’s business.”
Nothing more is recorded until He was 30 and John the Baptist baptized him. Then when He was 33, He was crucified, but rose again on the third day.
Three young guests were recognized by Phyllis Rames for helping her transport 20 poinsettias from United Methodist to rooms of the guest at Long Term Care. Thank you to Sierra, Chelsey and Gazmyne!
There was some debate about when to take the Christams tree down. Erna Wasmuth says Jan. 6. What do you think?
Jenni Pratt told us about her grandson who teaches fourth grade in Bethlehem. His name is Jeff Stone, and he is a missionary from the Assembly of God Church of Vandalia. He loves it! They say, “Give one year and consider a lifetime.”
Shirley Locke and Joyce Meyer won two games of pinochle, while John Hunsley and Ruth Ann Scott won none.
Recognizing the many volunteers working today who are regulars: Don Carpenter, Ruth Scott, Lillie Moore, Jenni Pratt, Marie Sutton, Erna Wasmuth, Genelle Hatchat, Vickie Murdock and Shirley Locke.
Thank you for your faithfulness!
Happy New Year!
