Evergreen Outreach

By Mary Woolsey
The drought continues – with Monday's temperature rising to 104 degrees. We keep wondering, “How long can this heat last?” Records have already been broken. Luckily, we were again in Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care with ample air-conditioning.
Betty Stolte, a very talented pianist, was playing some old familiar music. “Whispering” was a favorite of those singing along.
Jeanne Schlicht was kind to start the program in lieu of Cindy Hunter, who was unable to come. There were no birthday persons present. Viola Stuckemeyer had a birthday, but she was not there.
Kim Bunyard brought her 3-day-old baby boy, whose name is Carl Thomas.
Another wonderful event on Monday was the 72nd wedding anniversary of Darel M. and Mary F. Hayes. Darel said that the marriage has been good. Mary was 16 when they married and Darel was 18. They have four children, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
David, a son-in-law, said that Darel and Mary have been very happy, are still in love and have enjoyed their long life together.
Phyllis Rames gave a devotional, with good thoughts to ponder. “How many have exercised God’s will today?”
In Psalm 37, verse 7, it says: “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently on him.” God always answers. All of our plans are inferior to God’s plans for us.
In Psalm 37:5, it says to “Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in him.”
In Jeremiah 29:11, it says that God plans to prosper you and not harm you. God cares, and he can give you peace.
It would be great if each of us stayed in the will of God and enjoyed the promises he has for us. Thank you, Phyllis.
David Korte entertained us with many old songs that we could relate to from our younger days. “Back in the Saddle Again,” “You Are My Sunshine,” “Good Night Irene,” “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “Give My Love to Rose” and “God Bless America.”
It was wonderful seeing some of the older ones singing or moving their lips to songs they remembered from years ago.
The pinochle players, John Hunsley and Wolf Schlicht, won two games, while Shirley Locke and Peggy Lippold didn't win any. Do better next week, girls!
Next week, July 30, we will again meet in FCH Long Term Care. The weather continues to be too hot to be out and about.
