Evergreen Outreach

By Charlene M. Jett
You can tell it’s football season, because on Monday we had to PUNT! More about that later.
Betty Schulte played the piano as we started our meeting. We had a full 10 tables, and caught up on the past week as we had our refreshments. Cindy Hunter, our program manager for the day, set the stage for the Rev. Ernie Flowers. Let me tell you a little about him. He has two children (both around 60 years old), which, according to his own words, makes him "older than dirt." Ha!
We celebrated birthdays with Phyllis Rames, Brenda Reese, Edna Strudlmeyer, Madonna Larimer and Carey Meyer.
Flowers spoke to us about the book of Psalms in the Bible, which was written by King David. What is important is NOT that he was a king, but that he had a personal relationship with God. In this special relationship, God inspired him to write poetry, which we now call the Psalms. Of course, it was written in Hebrew and accompanied by the harp, which David played.  King David had a perspective on righteousness, and tried to do God’s will. He tried to avoid the unrighteous and enjoyed his life.  He delighted in the Lord’s laws and made many, many right decisions. And he made a few wrong ones, too.
Making these right decisions made him a strong and prosperous person, and the king. He helped many people through difficult times. This lesson helps us to understand about separating the wheat (important) from the chaff (not important) in our daily life, and trying to do God’s will.
Oh, yes, about the PUNT. Well, that was Betty Schulte playing our favorite songs and hymns for a good half an hour, while Edith and Charlene chimed in with the words. It was a good time to get our voices stronger and prepare for the cold and sore throat season. I may need tea and honey to sooth my voice and throat! It was a very good time and I hope that we didn’t damage any eardrums. Thank you Betty!
Only one pinochle table was active, with Shirley Locke and Peggy Lippold winning both games over Mary Woolsey and Sharon Mueller.
Everyone be sure and get your rain/winter coats and shoes out and ready; fall has arrived.
