Evergreen Outreach

By Edith Elliott
Evergreen Outreach is amazing! Many volunteers were gone on Monday because of illnesses and other things, but other volunteers just seem to show up to take up the slack.
Our dear Bernie Ray was our pianist for the day. Her playing can turn a cloudy November day into pure joy! Four of her tunes were: “Melody of Love,” “Peg of My Heart,” “Honey” and “Room Full of Roses.”
Judy Varga filled in as leader, and led the “Evergreen Outreach” and “Welcome” songs.
The Rev. Tom Farris, pastor of First Church of God, took us through a devotional based on the theme of  “faith” in Hebrews 11:5. There it told about Enoch, who walked with God for 365 years before God took him up to heaven.
Farris recalled that when he was young, he would walk with his dad. But he just could not keep up with him. Yet we can keep up with God. Pleasing God is to worship him, serve him and walk with him. Those who seek him with all of their heart will be blessed.
Judy Varga and Randy Schukar bring much fun with guest and volunteer participation. Randy started the program by singing “Just Over in the Glory Land.” Judy sang and brought out the dancers. Guests and volunteers do a great “Chicken Dance.” Later, Randy kept the dancers busy as he sang “Ring of Fire,” and then the slow dancers danced to “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.” Also bringing dancers to the floor were “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “Elvira” and “Lollipop.” One guest, Trevor Kelly, sang along with Randy as he sang “Hey, Good Lookin.’” Trevor and his gal pal, Hope Huffstatler, did a mean jitterbug.
In the pinochle corner, each of the teams won one. Roseamund Hobler partnered with Peggy Lippold, and Shirley Locke was paired with John Hunsley.
Special thanks to Joyce Mueller, who took over helping with refreshments and cleanup.
Our prayers go out to Wolf Schlicht, who is in the hospital in Springfield, and Marie Sutton, who will be admitted to Fayette County Hospital this week.
