Evergreen Outreach

By Sharon Mueller
The dining room at Long Term Care at Fayette County Hospital was completely filled with Evergreen Outreach participants as they gathered on Monday. The regular EO meeting place, First United Methodist Church, was unavailable that day, thus the change of venue.
Cindy Hunter provided cookies and introduced “Soft Fire” – David and Patricia Pence – who entertained by singing gospel songs, playing musical instruments and sharing their testimony. Their well-behaved border collie dogs slept during the program, then mingled with people afterward. The couple sang many familiar hymns and had audience participation, with many singing along to the well-known older songs. Patricia sang a song she wrote, “Good News of Christ the King.”
Celebrating birthdays were Eddie George, Edna Penney, Thelma Dunbar and Ann Zucksworth.
The Rev. Roger Grimmett, pastor of First United Methodist Church, had just returned from a weekend surrounded by several hundred teenagers at a “Fire Up” retreat in Troy. He spoke of the Bible and our need to be on fire for Jesus. A fire dies out when no one stokes it, said one lady in the audience.
I Thessalonians 5:19 says: “Do not quench (put out) the spirit.” We need to be “stoked” to keep burning for Jesus. It was an inspiring message for all.
Pinochle players, Peggy Lippold and Ruth Ann Scott, won one game, then tied with Shirley Locke and Mary Woolsey in another game.
Next Monday, March 4, EO will meet at FUMC at 1 p.m. Then, the following Sunday, March 10, Daylight Savings Time begins, so we will need to set our body “clocks” one hour ahead. (Remember: spring forward and fall back.)
