Evergreen Outreach

-A A +A

By Karen Redfern
Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
I have been attending Evergreen Outreach for more than a year now, and each meeting is such a blessing and wonderful experience. Phyllis Rames had a vision when she introduced this program and WOW! What fun we would miss if it ever stops.
Betty Stolte provided us with enjoyable music on the piano. Charlene Jett was our leader and devotion person, Roger Grimmett was scheduled for the devotion, but due to a tragic accident on I-70, he was assisting there. Thank you, Charlene, for stepping up and wearing so many hats to help us out.
She welcomed everyone and acknowledged the birthdays. Those turning another year older were: Mickey Wilson, Mary Gebke, Ewald Steiner, Steve Longwell, Ivan Swofford and Eleanor McNutt. Janelle Hacket will have a birthday next week, but due to the holiday, E.O. will not meet.
Snacks and drinks were provided by Evergreen volunteers.
Charlene shared a scripture verse about hope from a Sunday school book. I Peter 4:1-11 says that we have hope because of Christ’s suffering. His biggest gift to us is time! We are not to waste time doing things the devil wants us to do, but doing the things that God wants us to do. Therefore, we are to be self-controlled and clear-headed, so we can pray. We are to put our faith in Jesus and don’t ever give up, even when we make mistakes. Love as if your life depends on it, because that’s the way Jesus loves us. A short prayer was given – help us gracious Lord!
Our entertainers for the afternoon were the duet of Randy Schukar and his sister, Judy Varga. They are one of my favorites to listen to. They always put on a great performance.
Randy started off with one of his mother's favorite songs, “The King Is Coming.” Then he sang “Ring of Fire," which put everyone's hands clapping, and later he sang "Elvira."
Judy got things livened up by singing the “Chicken Dance.” Several came forward and enjoyed the motions to the dance. Then she sang “Locomotion,” “Rockin' Robin,” “Coal Miner's Daughter,” “You Were Always On My Mind,” “Your Cheating Heart,” “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” “You Ain’t Women Enough to Take My Man,” “If You're Looking At Me, You're Looking At Country” and “If You Got the Money, Honey, I've Got The Time.”
Karen Hunter was a special guest of Judy and Randy, and she sang a few songs with them.
Judy sang a special song to Phyllis Rames for her expertise in demonstrating Christ’s love for families.
Rosamund Hobler and Peggy Lippold took on Shirley Locke and Mary Woolsey in pinochle. Each team won a game.
Remember, no E.O. next Monday due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday.
