Evergreen Outreach

By Charlene M. Jett
Monday was beautiful, and I’m not just talking about the warm weather and sunshine.  Most of our Evergreen Outreach  regulars were with us, and we still had room for newcomers, like Max Maxwell (Brownstown).
God bless them all. Bette Stolte, whose delightful fingers have NOT been slowed down by her recent surgery, played the piano and lifted our mood and hearts.
After refreshments, we sang "Happy Birthday" to Pat Rhodes, Beulah Brown, Nick Olive and Tina Klinghammer. We also sang to Randy and Katie Schukar (who is having surgery soon).
Our entertainment was Judy Varga and Randy Schukar. Bob Varga, the silent third partner in this  duet, also will be having surgery soon. Our prayers are with them all.
The Rev. Roger Grimmett of  First United Methodist Church led the devotions. Since Monday was  St. Patrick’s Day, he focused our attention on a bit of history about that Irish saint. What he accomplished in Ireland was the establishment of about 300 churches and about 120,000 converts. Grimmett also pointed out that one way to “preach” the gospel, is to ”speak” by your actions.  I think this is commonly known as “actions speak louder than words.” For many, like St. Patrick and Mother Theresa, this was very true. Grimmett taught us that St. Patrick used the clover leaf to remind us about the Trinity – the Father (God), Son (Jesus) and Holy Ghost. What a simple but effective tool, and I hope my yard is full of them, so I never forget!
Judy and Randy took over the stage with their electronic  karaoke machine. Judy’s voice is simply fantastic when she sings “How Great Thou Art.” She sounds like an angel, and means every word! Wow!
Changing gears, we then danced to “Coal Miner’s  Daughter,” Brad Elmore’s favorite song. Schukar sang more danceable songs like "Ring of Fire" and "Elvira" – which naturally made me wonder, "Where  is Brenda?" We missed her. There was fun to be had by all.
Since we enjoyed Betty’s music so much, Judy put her in front of the stage, with “Pookie” the puppet, and sang a humorous rendition of “The Harper Valley PTA.” What a good sport. See what your good works can earn you! Just joking!
"The Chicken Dance" was led by  “Pookie,” and "Locomotion," the train dance, was led by Randy. Since everyone was a little weak from a very long winter, we only made three loops around Wesley Hall.
Losing track of what songs were next, and who danced what and when, seems to put stress on my memory banks.  So we are just going to just say,  that it was ALL GOOD!
The pinochle table was occupied by Shirley Locke, Susan Meador, Rosamund Hobler and Mary Woolsey. This time, everyone won one game. One game was won by only 10 points – very close!
My heart is full of joy,  due to  seeing everyone again. Thank you so much for coming to Evergreen Outreach. Never forget, God loves you! See you next week.
