Evergreen Outreach

By Charlene M. Jett
It is the time of the year that we need to remember the reason for the season of celebration and history of Evergreen Outreach.
The foundation of Evergreen Outreach is based in the Bible (Mathew 25:40), which inspired Phyllis Rames (the founder) more than 45 years ago. It means that whatever you do to the least of these, you have done to me (Christ). It points to Christ’s life of kindness and mercy, which we are to emulate.
And, since God is the person behind the stars, he created a special star to announce the birth of his Son – Jesus.
More than 2,000 years ago, the wise men were on their journey and had been traveling by camel for several months. Melchior from Persia, Caspar from India and Balthazar from Arabia all were scholars or kings.
They were following a very bright star (The Star of Bethlehem), which was leading them to Bethlehem in Israel, where – they had been told – a new King would be born. They came to worship Him and brought him Gold (a symbol for Kings), frankincense (perfume/incense from Boswella plant) and myrrh (oil from Commiphora plant).
Now, the terrible and evil King Herod had instructed his minions to kill all babies under 2 years old – this was known as the “Massacre of  Innocents” – and Jesus was about to be born. His parents fled Egypt and he was finally born in Israel.
The Wiseman found him there, thanks to the Star of Bethlehem.
Come to Evergreen Outreach next week to learn more about the life of Christ and his mission.
