Evergreen Outreach

By Melanie Schaafsma
Pam Childers played good, old-time tunes Monday as the Evergreen Outreach guests assembled. She played "I’m Lookin’ Over a Four-Leaf Clover," "Jeepers Creepers (Where’d You Get Those Peepers)", "By the Light of the Silvery Moon," "My Ragtime Gal," "And the Band Played On," "Clementine," "Bicycle Built for Two," "I’ve Been Working on the Railroad" and "Auld Lang Syne," so appropriate for the second day of the new year.
It was a full house, with everyone running to and fro, bringing in chairs at Fayette County Hospital’s Long Term Care, where we met this week. Beulah Brown led in the "Evergreen Outreach" and "Welcome" songs, and announced the January birthdays. They are: Virginia Dotray, Lisa Dulaney, Helen Hawthorne and Donna Smith. Beulah reminded us all that it is now 2012, and she led the group in a discussion of making New Year’s resolutions.
The Rev. Joe Lawson spoke from a passage in Isaiah. It was that God has engraved our names on his heart and written them on his hand. He related a story about his great niece, who kept after her grandmother to write her name in grandma’s scrapbook.  Joe said that God has already written her name somewhere that matters even more than a scrapbook!
The pinochle room had one table playing on Monday. Peggy Lippold and Shirley Locke won one game and John Hunsley and Wolf Schlicht won one also. Only winners today!
Dave Korte played the guitar and sang many, many songs. He sang: "Back in the Saddle Again," "Hey Good Lookin’," "You Are My Sunshine," "Goodnight Irene" and  "He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands." He then moved on to a few hymns, including "Because He Lives" and "Put Your Hand in the Hand." Dave had many people singing along with him to a variety of songs, including many Johnny Cash songs. He dedicated "Ring of Fire" to the FAYCO folks. Jeannie Schlicht, Erna Wasmuth and many of the guests were up dancing – and they were wonderful! Dave ended with a rousing rendition of "God Bless America." Everyone was singing out with him!
Before we knew it, our time had flown and it was time to go home!
But next week, they’ll do it all again at Evergreen Outreach!
