Enjoy ‘Olde Tyme Christmas’ Friday

Are you ready for the Christmas season? Well, ready or not, it’s here.

This Friday, the season kicks off in Vandalia with Vandalia Main Street’s Olde Tyme Christmas celebration. It’s one of the biggest promotions of the year.

The activities run from 5-8 p.m., and merchants throughout the downtown area will be unveiling their holiday merchandise. Plus, Main Street has scheduled a full lineup of holiday activities throughout the evening. The main events include: lighting storefront lights at 5:30 p.m., lighting the community Christmas tree at 6 p.m. and a children’s story hour at 6:30 p.m.

Among the other activities are a live Nativity, strolling carolers, roasted chestnuts, free horse-drawn carriage rides, chainsaw-carved ice sculptures and pictures with Santa.

Of course, the reason for all this activity is to put on display the wide variety of holiday merchandise available from our downtown merchants. They’re putting their best foot forward as the holiday season begins. We encourage you to support them and merchants throughout the community by shopping Vandalia first.
