Though it’s still six weeks until Christmas, this weekend will get you in the holiday mood.
It’s Olde Tyme Christmas in downtown Vandalia. And that means that all your favorite holiday activities and characters will be available there – Santa and Mrs. Claus, live reindeer, trolly car rides, a live Nativity and music from Chime Masters Brass Bells. You’ll also find lots of specials from downtown merchants to help you save money as you begin your holiday shopping.
It all starts Friday at 5 p.m. with the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree at the intersection of Seventh and Gallatin streets and continues until 9 p.m. that evening. The festivities begin again Saturday at 10 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.
Sponsored by the Vandalia Downtown Merchants Association, the event will feature activities throughout the business district. Participating merchants will offer in-store refreshments, and Soroptimist members will hold their annual cookie walk.
In addition to the nice lineup of attractions downtown, merchants throughout the community are anxious to kick off the Christmas shopping season. Make sure you give all our merchants a shot before you take your business out of town. We think you’ll be surprised at the range of holiday gifts that you can find right here at home.
To get it started, go to downtown Vandalia this weekend.
