Emerick, Morrison, Bowen re-elected

All three Republican county office holders on the ballot won re-election on Tuesday.

Circuit Clerk Kathy Emerick defeated Democrat challenger Ashley Towler, 5,361-3,816, State's Attorney Joshua Morrison defeated Democrat challenger Stephen Friedel, 4,767-4,318, and Coroner Bruce Bowen defeated Democrat challenger Lori Carter, 6,762-2,374.

Emerick and Morrison are elected to second terms in office, and Bowen wins a fifth term.

In the only other contested race in the county, in County Board District 1, Republican Jenny (Austin) Waggoner defeated long-time incumbent Democrat Jean Finley, 847-478.

In the presidential race, Donald Trump held a 7,225-1,738 edge over Hillary Clinton.

Of the 13,336 registered voters in the county, 9,470 (71% percent) went to the polls on Tuesday.
