Embers Wood Fired Pizza now open
From the time you enter the door, it’s clear that Embers Wood Fired Pizza is not your typical pizza restaurant.
The sparse décor keeps the focus on what’s really important in this new restaurant – a giant red, wood-burning stove that dominates the open kitchen area. Customers can see their food being prepared behind a flame-etched glass half-wall. And they can see the flames inside the Italian-made, 6,200-pound stove that can reach temperatures as high as 900 degrees – fueled only with wood.
“We wanted to provide a new pizza concept for the area,” said Vicki Ellsworth, who, along with her husband Robert, owns the restaurant. “It’s a unique environment.” They are joined in the venture by their daughter, Jessica Johnson, a CPA who is serving as the chief financial officer for the business.
Located at 7 Mattes Ave., near the Holiday Inn Express, Embers is situated next to the Huddle House restaurant, which also is owned by the Ellsworths.
In addition to pizza, the menu features a variety of salads, sandwiches and smoked wings. The 11-inch pizzas range from $8.99 to $12.99, with about a dozen varieties on the menu – or customers can build their own by selecting the sauce, cheese, vegetables and meat that they want. For dessert, the highlights are dessert shooters, sundaes and chocolate mousse cheesecake.
The restaurant also features a bar and gaming room, but that area is separated from the main dining area. Decorations are dominated by pictures of coal miners – partly because it goes with the Embers theme, but also because Robert worked in the coal mines for 15 years.
Hours for Embers are: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The phone number is 283-2625.
