A public hearing for both Vandalia and Fayette County on the issue of electric aggregation is this Thursday night.
Good Energy is holding the public meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse.
At the meeting, Good Energy representatives will explain the issue of municipal aggregation, as well as answer questions from people in the audience.
A municipal aggregation referendum is on the April 9 consolidated election ballot.
The Vandalia City Council and Fayette County Board both voted in January to put the issue on the ballot, with the county board’s action putting the measure before voters in unincorporated areas of the county.
Steve Bryant explained to both entities that state statute allows municipalities and counties to join together for the purchase of electricity, and that the group purchases allow for considerably lower rates.
“You’ll never pay more than what you’re paying today,” Bryant said.
