Eagles are NTC consolation champs

St. Elmo baseball’s team rallied to finish the season at .500 and take the consolation championship in the National Trail Conference Tournament.

After falling to 6-8 on Sept. 18, the Eagles went 4-2 in the final six games, including a 2-1 mark in the NTC Tournament to better their tournament seed and finish the season 10-10.

In the consolation championship on Monday, the Eagles fell behind 2-0 after the first inning, but made up for that in the third-fifth innings of an 8-3 victory.

Dalton Parks (2-3) picked up the win, tossing a complete game and striking out six.

Offensively, he was backed by Nick Bauer, who went 2-for-3, with a double and an RBI, and Noah Flowers, who was 1-for-3, with two RBI. Ben Davis and Alec Brady each had one RBI.

With a single, senior Garrett Bartels finished the fall season on a five-game hitting streak.

In the first game in consolation bracket, St. Elmo last Thursday defeated Windsor, 6-3, in eight innings, allowing senior Connor Beasley to secure his seventh win of the season.

He fell just one win short of tying his school record of eight, which is also held by Logan Mahon.

Beasley was sharp from the mound, allowing no earned runs and three hits in the first seven innings. He struck out six.

St. Elmo picked up four runs in the top of the eighth to secure the victory, even though the Eagles (9-10) had just three hits in the game.

Beasley paced the offense, with a 1-for-4 day, including a double and two RBI. Nick Bauer was 1-for-3, with an RBI.
