Ducks Unlimited volunteers from across the Southern Region are hosting a D.U. Waterfowl Hunters Party on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the American Legion Hall in Vandalia.
For those unfamiliar with Waterfowl Hunters Parties (WHP’s), it is as simple as it sounds. Duck and goose hunters from around the area get together at a very informal gathering with food, drink and a lot of raffles to help raise money for Ducks Unlimited and their passionate cause of waterfowl and wetland conservation.
WHP’s are not “artsy” events, but instead feature 30-40 dozen Avery decoys, lay-out blinds, guns, camo gun cases and bags and other hunting gear.
“When the doors open, it’s two to three hours of fun and excitement, with non-stop raffles and drawings and lots of great hunting gear. We will even be giving away a great gun just for attending the event,” D.U. Regional Director Jon Sturgill said.
Tickets are $25 per person, which includes entry into the event, a meal, free beer and soda, and an attendance prize ticket on a free gun. Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Legion, and tickets are available at the following locations: Buck Stop Archery, McKellar, Robertson, McCarty and Click Insurance Agency; and Vandalia Dental Associates, Jay Lowry DMD.
