A pair of games decided by five points or fewer and two upsets led an exciting first day at the Vandalia Holiday Tourmnament on Wednesday.
No. 3 Vandalia went 1-1 on the day, beating ninth-seeded St. Anthony, 70-65, before being upset by No. 6 Shelbyville, 55-42 in the final game of the night.
Shelbyville had earlier lost to No. 2 Maroa-Forsyth, 60-56, but M-F was upset by No. 7 Altamont, 55-44, later in the day.
That left Maroa-Forsyth, Vandalia and Shelbyville all 1-1 in Pool B. Altamont leads the pool, with a 1-0 record, and St. Anthony is 0-1.
