DAR chapter honors area high school students

The Ewington Chapter of the Illinois Society Sons of the American Revolution recognized outstanding seniors from local high schools during an awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 19, at First Baptist Church in Effingham.

The Ewington Chapter’s Outstanding Citizenship Awards chairman, Larry Smith, said that the Ewington Chapter serves Fayette, Effingham, Marion, Clay, Shelby, Coles, Cumberland and Clark counties.
The Fayette County students recognized with SAR Outstanding Citizenship Awards include: Addison Cage, Brownstown; Madison Karrick, Patoka; Grant Dubiel, Ramsey; and Chase Riley, South Central.
Each student received an Outstanding Citizenship lapel pin and a certificate.
The award is presented in recognition of the recipient’s furthering of American citizenship principles and the student is nominated by the high school considering the student’s overall scholarship and citizenship.
Each member of the SAR is a direct descendant of those patriots who achieved the independence of the American people, either through military service, public service or by providing food, lodging or some other service to the cause. The objectives of the SAR are patriotic, historical and educational.
Joe Harris, chapter president said, “Throughout Illinois, in big cities and in small towns, SAR members are working to promote patriotism and preserve the ideals of freedom. If you think you have a patriot and would like to join us, we would love to have you attend our meetings.”
