Cumberland 3, St. Elmo 1

St. Elmo outhit Cumberland in a contest last Tuesday, but the Pirates walked away with a 3-1 win.

“This is a game we should have won,” said coach Ryan Beccue. “We have limited our strikeouts so far this season, but today we had way too many against a pitcher we should have handled.

“We still had an opportunity in the seventh to win the game, but couldn’t come through with a timely hit,” Beccue said.

The Eagles scored a run in the first inning when Woodsen Savage drove home Nathaniel Maxey, but were blanked the rest of the way.

Maxey was 3-for-4 on the day, and Savage and Willie Magnus each had one hit.

Zeke Asher suffered the loss for the Eagles, giving up four hits while striking out eight and walking two.

Pana 13, St. Elmo 3

St. Elmo held a 1-0 lead in the first inning and a 3-2 advantage after four innings, but Pana scored 11 times in the last two innings to beat the Eagles.

Adam Siebert led the Eagles by going 3-for-3 at the plate.

He drove home Maxey in the first inning to give St. Elmo the early lead.

Maxey and Siebert each had one hit.

Ben Sperry took the loss, giving up three hits and five runs, four of which were earned. He struck out three and walked two.
