The Vandalia City Council on Monday rejected a change to its zoning ordinance that would have allowed the First Assembly of God Church to move into the former home of Rural King on Veterans Avenue.
In a 6-2 vote, the council rejected a proposal to include places of worship among the permitted uses in its general commercial zoning districts.
That change had been recommended by the city's planning commission.
