BROWNSTOWN – South Central got off to a quick start and never slowed down on Tuesday, defeating in-county rival Brownstown/St. Elmo, 11-3.
The Cougars posted five runs over the first two innings of the National Trail Conference game and posted four more over the fourth and fifth innings to take command of the contest.
Dylan Smith paced the offense – which had 15 hits – with two triples and a double, while Tyus Holmes added a triple and three RBI, Dre Hill doubled and Kyle Bray had two RBI.
The four extra-base hits give the Cougars 17 such hits through five games.
Dylen Peters (3-0) picked up the win for South Central (4-1, 4-1 NTC), which has won four straight since dropping the season-opener to Altamont and scored 11 runs in three of those games.
Peters struck out six over six innings of work.
Dalton Parks led Brownstown/St. Elmo’s offense, picking up a hit and two RBI for the Bombers (4-3, 2-2 NTC).
Jacob Behrends (0-2) took the loss after tossing two innings.
South Central battled Webber in a doubleheader on Wednesday and will host Odin on Thursday.
Brownstown/St. Elmo will host Patoka on Thursday in Egyptian-Illini Conference action.
