Pro wrestling show coming to Vandalia Moose Lodge

Pro Wrestling Prestige is presenting a show at the Moose Lodge in Vandalia on Saturday, April 9, that will feature local professionals, including Vandalia native D.A. Morrison, and others who are known nationally.

The doors open for the show at 1:30 p.m., with the main show beginning at 2 p.m., and tickets are currently on sale at the Moose Lodge at 328 S. Third St.

Adult tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, and children’s tickets are $5.

Some of the wrestlers scheduled for the event include:
•Davey Richards, who is a nationally-known champion wrestler for the Ring of Honor company.
•Tony Kozina, who has won mulitple championships and awards with several professional companies.
•Arik Cannon, who appeared on MTV’s Wrestle X Society in 2006-07 and has won several championships throughout his career.
•Mike Sydal, who is the brother of World Wrestling Entertainment’s Evan Bourne.
•Matt Cage, who appeared in Vandalia during a show in 2010 against WWE’s Eugene.
•The Hooligans, a tag team that has preformed across the country.
•Joey O’Riley, who appeared in Vandalia during a show in 2010.
•Christian Rose, who appeared in Vandalia during a show in 2010.

Fayette County Speedway announces 2011 schedule

The 2011 racing season at Fayette County Speedway is set to begin on Friday with regular racing and a sportsman modifieds race.

The racing schedule includes almost every Friday date until August and other dates in September and October.

For all regular events, the pit and grandstands will open at 5 p.m. Regular shows include UMP DIRTcar sanctioned modifieds, street stocks and hornets and the team-car division.

Hot laps for shows begin at 7 p.m., with racing immediately following.

Hall of Fame nominations open for VCHS alums

Nominations for this year’s Vandalia Community High School Athletic Hall of Fame are due by May 16. Forms should be sent to Kevin Jackson, VCHS Athletic Director, 1109 N. 8th St., Vandalia, Ill. 62471. Forms are available at the high school office and may also be dropped off there.

Forms are also available on the district website at http://www.vcs.fayette.k12.il.us.

In order to be nominated, the following conditions must be met.

The candidate must be a graduate of VCHS, a distinguished varsity team, a former coach or a supportive fan.
The candidate must have graduated from, completed coaching at or been a supportive fan no less than five years prior to nomination.

The credentials of candidates nominated may be based on administrative as well as physical achievements, provided such honors are on the field of athletics.

An individual meeting the above qualifications can be nominated by anyone. Nominees shall be considered for three years. Individuals not selected within the three-year period must be re-nominated to be considered.
