YMCA holding Healthy Kids Day event

The Family YMCA is hosting a free event in conjunction with the national YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday.

The event will take place from 1-3 p.m., with activities such as tug-o-war, dodge ball, kick ball and a fun relay.

The day is designed to help parents and children understand the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.

"We know that parents struggle to find the time to incorporate more active play and healthier habits into their kids' daily routine," said John Ashdown, the director of the Family YMCA. "Doing so doesn't have to require extra money or resources. It's as simple as making a play date with your kids, with two key requirements – be active and have fun."

More than 1,600 YMCAs across the country will open their doors on Healthy Kids Day, with more than 700,00 families expected to participate.
