Friday, October 1
✔ A country music dance will be held at the Patoka Service Center, 210 W. Bond St., Patoka. "Charlie's Jam" will perform. Admission is by donation.

Saturday, October 2

✔ First Baptist Church of Brownstown will hold a block party from 11:30 a.m.-3L:30 p.m. at Brownstown City Park.

Sunday, October 3

✔ Mother of Dolors Catholic Church will hold its annual Chicken Dinner and Fall Festival from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the church's Parish Center, 705 W. St. Clair St. The menu will include homemade noodles, and the event will include a country store and a raffle. Carry-outs will be available in the church basement. The cost for the dinner is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-11, with children age 4 and under served free.
✔ Sacred Heart Church in Oconee is holding its annual Fall Festival this Sunday and on the following two Sundays, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. This week, the festival includes a car show. The festival each week features a straw maze, barnyard zoo, hayrides, slides, kids' play area, water balloon launcher and craft booths.
✔ St. James Lutheran Church will hold a "Blessing of the Animals" at 4 p.m. in the courtyard of the church, located at 727 W. Gallatin St., Vandalia.
✔ Life Chain Sunday will be observed in Vandalia from 2-3:30 p.m. at the corner of Gallatin Street and Kennedy Boulevard.

Monday, October 4

✔ The Fayette County Relay for Life Committee will hold a Relay for Life kickoff meeting at 6:30 p.m. at First Church of God, 3001 Thrill Hill Road, northwest of Vandalaia. Both new and past committee members are needed to brainstorm and prepare for the 2011 Relay. The person wearing the most purple to the meeting will win a prize. ✔ An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 3-7 p.m. at St. Elmo Elementary School.
✔ The Vandalia City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.
Tuesday, October 5

✔ Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a lapsit storytime at 10 a.m. Stories, songs and finger plays will be presented by the library staff.
✔ The Fayette County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. at Evans Public Library in Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to bring family stories for show and tell.
✔ The Vandalia Women of the Moose will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
✔ A country music dance will be held at 7 p.m. at the Patoka Service Center. "The Prospectors" will perform. Admission is $5, and there is a potluck.

Wednesday, October 6

✔ The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse. A luncheon is followed by a business meeting and a program.
✔ An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2-7 p.m. at Brownstown High School.
✔ TOPS IL 2020 will meet at 5:45 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:45 p.m.
✔ The Fayette County Emergency Management Agency will meet at 7 p.m. in the EMA headquarters, located in the basement of the Fayette County Jail.
Thursday, October 7

✔ TOPS IL 2490 will meet from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is from 9-9:30 a.m. For more information, contact Dovie Heaton-Bergin at 283-1729.
✔ Soroptimist International of Vandalia will meet at noon at Days Inn.
✔ TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20  p.m., and the meeting is at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Donna Morell at 423-2916.

Saturday, October 9

✔ Vandalia's Little Community Garden's Fall Festival will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the garden, located on Edwards Street, between First and Second streets. Items that will be available include herbs, vegetables, pickled beets, jellies and jams, gourds, flowers, artwork, crafts, fall decorations and Nori Pruitt's homemade pies. Music will be provided. Refreshments will be served.
✔ The American Farm Heritage Museum, located south of the eastern Interstate 70 exit at Greenville will hold its Family Fun Day. The event will include children's games from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., a chili cook-off with judging at 11 a.m., a cookie bake contest at 1:30 p.m. and prizes.
