? National Bank on Gochenour and Sixth streets in Vandalia will hold a cookout to benefit Fayette County Relay for Life from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Take-out orders may be placed by calling 283-2100. The bank continues to hold a book sale to benefit Relay for Life, with hardback books selling for $2, and paperbacks selling for $1.
? Patoka High School will hold commencement exercises at 7 p.m. in the PHS gym.
? South Central High School will hold commencement exercises at 7 p.m. in the SCHS gym
Saturday, May 19

? Mulberry Grove High School will hold commencement exercises at 1 p.m. in the MGHS gym.
? A kickoff for Fayette County Relay for Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. at Family Video, located at Seventh and Gallatin streets in Vandalia. The event will include balloon animals by Bill Beard, face-painting, pizza, a cheese tray and Wii-playing. Prizes donated by local merchants will be given away.
? Vandalia Community High School will hold commencement exercises at 7 p.m. in the VCHS gym.
? St. Elmo High School will hold commencement exercises at 7 p.m. in the SEHS gym.
? A country music dance is held from 7-10 p.m. every Saturday at the old Seminary Schoolhouse south of Hagarstown. For more information, call 267-8386 or 367-1506.
Sunday, May 20

? A horse show will be held at the Okaw Saddle Club, located at Lake Wood Drive and Thrill Hill Road northwest of Vandalia, off of Ill. Route 185. Pleasure classes begin at 9 a.m., and speed classes begin at 1 p.m.
? A fundraiser dinner for the Meals on Wheels program will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Golden Circle Nutrition Center, 616 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. The cost is $8, and the menu will include ham, fried chicken, beef and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, gourmet carrots, slaw, desserts and drinks. Call 283-1040 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to make a reservation.

 ? An American Red Cross blood drive sponsored by the Vandalia Rotary Club, with assistance from the Vandalia Woman's Club, will be held from noon-6 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a lapsit story time at 6 p.m. The May theme is "School's Out – Teachers Let the Monkeys Out."
