? The annual horseshoes tournament to benefit Fayette County Relay for Life will be held at Eric Miller's residence. For more information, contact Miller at 846-2861 or Daisy Hipsher at 780-8265.
? Octochem's Relay for Life team will be hosting "Tips for a Cure" at Sonic on North Eighth Street from 5-9 p.m. SpongeBob, Hello Kitty, and Minnie and Mickey Mouse will be available for photos.
? "Fight for a Cure" will be held at Los Amigos Restaurant on Veterans Avenue in Vandalia. The cost for the event is $10. Participants will watch the UFC fight. The cover charge includes soda, chips and dip. Raffles and baskets will be available. For more information, contact Matyka Koonce at Octochem, 283-9360.
? The St. Elmo High School Alumni Banquet will be held in the high school gym. Registration begins at 5 p.m., and the dinner is at 6 p.m.
? A country music dance is held from 7-10 p.m. every Saturday at the old Seminary Schoolhouse south of Hagarstown. For more information, call 267-8386 or 367-1506.
Sunday, May 27

? A Memorial Day dinner will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Patoka Service Center, with the proceeds being used for the upkeep of Magassi Cemetery. The menu includes ham and turkey with all of the trimmings, drinks, and homemade pies and cakes. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. A quilt and gun raffle is being held.
? A horse show will be held at the Okaw Saddle Club, located at Lake Wood Drive and Thrill Hill Road northwest of Vandalia, off of Ill. Route 185. Pleasure classes begin at 9 a.m., and speed classes begin at 1 p.m.
Monday, May 28

? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia will be putting up its Avenue of Flags display, and volunteers are needed. Those wishing to help should report to the Legion Home at 6 a.m.
 ? Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia will hold its Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. at the Legion Home, 321 S. Seventh St.
? Brownstown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9770 will hold its Memorial Day program at the Memorial Wall in Brownstown City Park at 11 a.m.
? An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter in Vandalia.
? The 10th annual Walk Across America to show support of this nation's troops will be held at 1 p.m. Participants will walk from the Vandalia Statehouse to the American Legion Home.? The St. Elmo American Legion Post will hold a Memorial Day program at 1:30 p.m. at the Veterans' Memorial next to the Phillips Building on U.S. Route 40.

? An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 3-7 p.m. at the American Legion Home in Ramsey.

? An informational meeting on the new drug testing policy for students in extracurricular activities at Vandalia Community High School will be held at 6 p.m. in the VCHS gym.

Friday, June 1
? The "June Jamboree," a free public dance featuring recorded country music, will be held at the Herrick Community Center from 7-10 p.m. Those attending are asked to take their own snacks and soft drinks.
