Thursday, October 30

4 The Fayette County Health Department will hold an additional adult flu shot clinic from 9-11 a.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. No appointment is necessary. The cost is $35 for flu shots and $50 for pneumonia shots; Medicare Part B will be billed.

Friday, October 31

4 Trick or treat night is from 6-8 p.m. in Vandalia, St. Elmo, St. Peter and Ramsey; trick-or-treating in Brownstown is from 5-7 p.m., with a party to follow in Brownstown Park. Trick-or-treating is allowed for children up through sixth-grade age.

4 Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care will hold safe trick-or-treating from 6-8 p.m.

4 An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at St. Elmo High School.

4 Bi-Phy-Chem, a student club at Vandalia Community High School, will be accepting donations during trick-or-treat hours – 6-8 p.m. – to help hurricane victims in Galveston, Texas.

4 The city of St. Elmo is holding its eighth annual Haunted Trail at Deken Park. The fundraiser for the park runs from 8-10 p.m. and features three haunted houses and a spooky trail. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under age 12; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. A concession stand will be provided.

Saturday, November 1

4 The Vandalia Main Street Program will hold its inaugural pancake and sausage breakfast from 7-11 a.m. at the Way Inn, located at the southwest corner of Sixth and Gallatin streets. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-10. Carry-outs will be available.

4 The Brownstown Town & Country Golden Years Club will hold its annual soup dinner and bazaar from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Golden Years building, located at First and Division streets. The menu will include vegetable soup, chicken noodle soup, chili, desserts and drinks. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 6-12; children under 6 eat free of charge. Carry-outs will be available.

4 The 27th annual Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest and Bluegrass Show will be held at 5 p.m. at the Patoka Civic Center. The contest features the Midwest's finest fiddlers, coming from as far away as Kentucky and Tennessee. During the contest, national open fiddle champion George Portz and his award-winning "Friends of Bluegrass" will perform bluegrass and country music. A feature on this year's program is award-winning singer Brenda Cook, as well as The Mulhearns, a family of six talented fiddlers. Dinners, various sandwiches and beverages will be served throughout the evening. Admission is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children.

4 A reunion for members of Vandalia's Co. C, 7th Battalion Reserves will be held at the American Legion Home in Vandalia. Doors open at 5 p.m., a social hour is from 5-6 p.m., and dinner is at 6 p.m., followed by a program. For more information, call Wayne Hathaway, 283-3125.

4 The women of First Church of God, located at 3001 Thrill Hill Road northwest of Vandalia, will hold a chili dinner from noon-2 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Monday, November 3

4 A playgroup for children up through 3 years of age will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in St. Elmo. The playgroup is sponsored by Prevention Initiative/Pre-K of Fayette County. Snacks will be provided.

4 An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1-6 p.m. at Mulberry Grove High School.

4 Christmas craft night children ages 8-17 will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at OUR PLACE Youth Center in the 500 block of West Gallatin St. in Vandalia. The Christmas craft nights, held each Monday through Dec. 15, will be highly supervised.

4 The Vandalia City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

Tuesday, November 4

ELECTION DAY – Polls open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.

Wednesday, November 5

4 A playgroup for children up through 3 years of age will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Ramsey. The playgroup is sponsored by Prevention Initiative/Pre-K of Fayette County. Snacks will be provided.

4 The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce will meet in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse. A noon luncheon is followed by a business meeting and a program.

4 Vandalia Elementary School will hold a Veterans' Day assembly at 1:30 p.m. The speakers will include Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman and state Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Greenville). The students will be signing patriotic songs and honoring the veterans in attendance.

4 The Fayette County Emergency Management Agency will meet at 7 p.m. in the EMA headquarters, located in the basement of the Fayette County Jail.

4 Bible Blitz will be held from 7-8 p.m. at Parkview Free Methodist Church, which is located at 1507 W. Jefferson St. in Vandalia, for all children age 3 through sixth-grade age. Bible Blitz includes Bible study, music, crafts and games. The church also offers a youth group for junior high- and high school-aged students, as well as an adult Bible Study. All gatherings are open to the public.

4 TOPS IL 2020 will meet at 5:45 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:45 p.m.
