One might be surprised to find that Drew Bell ran his first- ever cross country meet about two weeks ago.
The University of Illinois freshman, a Vandalia grad, has run many track races in his career, but during his prep days, he competed in football during the fall months.
But, on Sept. 4, Bell became the third member of his immediate family to compete in NCAA Division I cross country. He finished 23rd in the University of Illinois hosted Illini Challenge, which was held at the Illinois Arboretum. Bell finished the 6,000-meter race in 20 minutes, 6 seconds.
