City OKs, supports Eagle badge project

The Vandalia City Council not only OK’d a Eagle badge project for a local Boy Scout that will improve Vandalia’s Little Community Garden, it agreed to support that project.

In his presentation to the council, Chandler Sasse said that he plans to install at the garden two concrete benches on pads, five birdhouses, a flag pole and a flag.
Sasse told aldermen that he would seek donations to help him complete the project by this fall, and that he would pay for the benches and build the birdhouses.
After his presentation, Alderman Andy Lester asked whether the city could contribute to the project.
Told by Mayor Rick Gottman that the city could do so use money from its general fund, and aldermen approved Lester’s motion to purchase the two benches, at a cost of $450 each.
