Operation Christmas Child collection
Collection efforts for Operation Christmas Child are going on this week at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.
During the week, shoe boxes filled with toys, hygiene items and school supplies will be collected in order to be delivered to needy children by Christmas.
Possible items to be included in the boxes include pens, pencils, markers, crayons, paper, coloring books, writing paper, small cars, balls, stuffed animals, jacks, Yo-Yos, paste, soap, combs, washclothes, hard candy, clothing, ball caps, sunglasses and hair clips.
The collection schedule at the church for the remainder of the week is: Wednesday and Thursday from 3-5 p.m., Friday from 5-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. and Monday from 8-9 a.m.
Last year, the local center collected 1,146 boxes. This year, the goal is 1,200.

Fit Ladies Club meeting at Family YMCA
The Spirit, Soul & Body Fit Ladies Club is now meeting every Saturday at the Family YMCA of Fayette County from 10-11 a.m.
The Body Gospel program, which involves dancing and exercising to gospel music, is free of charge. Participants do not need to be a member of the YMCA.
A time of prayer will be held following the class.
St. Peter's turkey supper this Sunday
The annual Turkey Supper and Country Store, sponsored by the women of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, will be held this Sunday in the St. Peter Lutheran School gymnasium. Serving begins at 5 p.m.
Cost of the meal is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-10 and free for children ages 3 and under. Carryouts are 50 cents extra.
The menu consists of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, creamed turnips, desserts and drinks.
Matching funds have been applied for through Thrivent Financial.
Brownstown Thanksgiving Service set
The public is invited to a community Thanksgiving Service this Sunday at 6 p.m. at Brownstown First Baptist Church.
Area churches will share special music, with First Baptist leading the worship. The Rev. John Robinson, the preaching minister at Brownstown First Christian Church, will speak.
An offering for the Brownstown Ministerial Alliance will be received and used for special community programs and to meet other needs as they arise.

Revival at Columbus Baptist Church
A revival will be held this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Columbus Baptist Church in rural Keyesport.
On Thursday and Friday, services will begin at 7 p.m., with different speakers each night.
On Saturday, the activities start at 5 p.m. with a potluck dinner, followed by a concert by the Fourgiven Quartet.
The church is located 3 miles north and 2 miles east of Keyesport.

Triumphant Quartet, Talleys in concert
Two of the most popular groups in Southern gospel music – the Triumphant Quartet from Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and The Talleys from Morristown, Tenn. – will present a 7 p.m. concert this Friday at First Christian Church in Salem.
The church is located at 1200 W. Boone St. in Salem. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Cowden church to celebrate 130th
The Free Methodist Church of Cowden will celebrate the 130th anniversary of its founding this Sunday
The schedule for the day includes Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., worship service at 10:30 a.m., lunch at 12:30 p.m. and a service of dedication at 2:30 p.m.
All past ministers and their families – as well as former attenders and members – are invited to the worship service and dedication program.

'Back to Basics' revival at Bethel Baptist
Tom Rankin will be leading a three-day mini-revival at Bethel Baptist Church at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Bethel Baptist is located on Ill. Route 185, northwest of Vandalia.
Puppet program to be held at The Barn
Ralphie and Friends, a puppet ministry presented by Randy Cooper of Manchester, will perform at The Barn in rural Pana on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. The free program is designed for children, but adults are also invited. Free Christmas cookies and candies will be available.
Cooper and his wife, Becky, sang with The Chosen Ones for more than 15 years. He now is the principal at West Fair Christian Academy in Jacksonville.
Also on the program will be the Dowd Family from Moweaqua and Joanne Clark.

One Voice to perform Dec. 4 in Cowden
The gospel singing group, One Voice, will be performing on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church in Cowden.
Formed in 2003, the trio has performed across the Midwest. They also have done tours in California, and have one planned for a five-state tour in the southeast United States.
