Lutheran women to hold rally Sept. 25

“Streaming for the Lord,” based on Jeremiah 17:7-8 will be the theme for this year’s Altamont Zone Fall Rally of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Central Illinois District.
The rally will be held on Sept. 25 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at 726 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with opening devotions by the Rev. Peter Kolb, pastor of the host church. Dinner will follow.
The main speaker for the rally will be Shelley Moeller of Rock Island. She has served in many LWML offices, itncluding district president from 2008 to 2012. She currently serves on the district board and the national HOPE committee.
Janet Williams, zone president, will conduct the business meeting and Annie Guerrataz, zone vice president, will direct a Christian Life program based on the rally theme.
LWML is a service organization of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.

Brownstown First Christian starts program

Extreme Zone, an after-school program hosted each Wednesday by Brownstown First Christian Church, is now open for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The church van will be available to transport those attending the program from the elementary school to the church. There, they will be given a snack and participate in recreation, singing and a Bible lesson. They will be ready to be picked up at 5 p.m.
Parents who would like their child to attend must sign a consent form at the school office.

Revival planned at Funkhouser Methodist

Revival planned at Funkhouser Methodist
A four-night revival series will be held Sept. 16-19 at Funkhouser United Methodist Church in Funkhouser.
The 7 p.m. services will be led by the Rev. George Whitley, and local musicians will provide special music each night.

The church is part of the Wolf Creek cluster, which includes churches in Brownstown, Bluff City, Fairview and St. Elmo.

Fall festival Sept 22 at Mother of Dolors

Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia will hold its annual chicken dinner and fall festival on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also included in the event, held at the parish center, are a country store and a raffle.
Cost of the dinner is $8 for adults (ages 12 and up), $4 for children (ages five to 11) and free for ages four and under.

Crown Point Church to hold annual picnic

Crown Point Church will host its annual picnic this Saturday, with a meal being served under a tent from 5-7 p.m. The menu includes, fish, pork burgers, hot dogs, slaw, French fries and desserts.
This event is open to all residents of Vandalia and the surrounding area. Games and prizes will be provided for the children.

Revival next week at Crown Point Church

Revival services will be held at Crown Point Church, starting this Sunday and running through Thursday.
Evangelists are: Sunday – the Rev. John Glennon of Parkview Free Methodist Church; Monday – the Rev. Tom Farris of First Church of God; Tuesday – the Rev. Carl Rhodes of Northside Christian Church; Wednesday – the Rev. Greg LeDuc of Campground Church; and Thursday – the Rev. Robert Weaver of First Baptist Church.
The Sunday night service begins at 6 p.m., and the services Monday through Thursday start at 7 p.m.

Nimrod Squad to hold archery clinic at Bethel Baptist

Members of the Nimrod Squad will hold an archery clinic and archery games on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church.
Included will be activities for all ages and skill levels.
Cost for the event is $5 per person. Lunch and a raffle are included.
