Area women attend LWML convention
About 40 women from the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League recently traveled to the organization's 35th biennial convention in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The delegate from the Altamont Zone was Tammie Kramer from Holy Cross Lutheran Church Ladies Circle in Vandalia.
She joined more than 3,100 delegates at the June 27-30 convention, which had the theme of "Quenched by the Water," which was based on John 4:14.
At the opening worship service, the Rev. Dr. Dien Taylor encouraged attendees to be "quenched and refreshed by the Living Water," so that they can be quenchers for others.
LWML President, Kay Kreklau, of Drayton, N.D., added: "The LWML has existed for 71 years, and, by God's grace, will continue to thrive because we, quenched by the water and the Word, will do God's work in God's time in God's way. You are the Lutheran Women's Missionary League! With the help of God, go and tell the world."
LWML is the official women's auxiliary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The organization financially supports global mission projects through its offerings.
Among the area churches represented at the convention were: Immanuel Lutheran, St. Paul/Blue Point Lutheran and Bethlehem Lutheran, all of Altamont; St. Peter Lutheran of St. Peter; St. Paul Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran of Shobonier; and Holy Cross Lutheran of Vandalia.
