CenterPointe Church to hold block party
CenterPointe Church will be hosting a free neighborhood block party on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Lincoln School playground.
The activities, which run from 9-11 a.m., will include relay games, carnival games, an inflatable bounce house, drinks, snow cones, cotton candy, face painting, balloon art, and free clothing and school supplies. At 10 a.m., the Broken Chains Band will perform.

The Barn in Pana to host Joe Arview
The Barn in rural Pana will celebrate its 15th anniversary this Saturday with a concert by Joe Arview, a popular Nashville recording artist.
Also appearing will be the Solid Gospel Quartet (a barbershop-style group) and the Three4One trio (an all-female group from Springfield).

Downeast Boys to perform at Bethalto
The Downeast Boys, a Southern gospel group from Reidsville, N.C., will perform this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Bethalto Church of God at 800 E. Bethalto Drive in Bethalto. For information, call 259-0065.
Steve Ladd in concert Aug. 10 at FBC
Steve Ladd from Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Vandalia.
Considered one of the premier tenors in Southern Gospel music today, he will perform many of his award-winning songs.
While singing with the Gold City Quartet, Ladd had a No. 1 song in "Preach The Word." He also has performed with the Statesmen Quartet and Michael English, and is a featured soloist with S.I. Homecoming Choir.
Singing News magazine recently nominated Ladd as the best new soloist of 2013.
The concert will be hosted by the FourGiven Quartet, which will be singing some new songs, with Jeff Hempken at the piano.
The concert is free, but an offering will be taken.
M of D rummage sale is Friday, Saturday
A rummage sale will be held this Friday and Saturday at Mother of Dolors Parish Center at 705 W. St. Clair St. in Vandalia. Friday hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to noon. Everything is half price on Saturday.
Items in the sale include clothing for infants, children and adults, kitchen items, furniture, books and much more.
Chosen Ones concert in MG on Aug. 9
Southern Gospel recording artists, The Chosen Ones, will be in concert in Mulberry Grove on Friday night, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. The program will be hosted by First Baptist Church at 111 N. Second St.
The Chosen Ones features two generations of smooth family harmony, blending both traditional and progressive Southern Gospel Music. Their music ministry encompasses nearly 40 years of music, performing about 160 times a year.

Bethel Baptist interim pastor named
Bethel Baptist Church of rural Vandalia will welcome the Rev. Van Kicklighter as its interim pastor, beginning this Sunday.
He is the executive director of church planting for the Illinois Baptist State Association.
Parkview youth to hold car wash Saturday
The youth group at Parkview Free Methodist Church will be holding a car wash this Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the church.
Baked goods also will be for sale.
