Women's trio to perform this Sunday

The Liberty Belles Trio, a Southern gospel women's group from Liberty, Mo., will perform at Crown Point Church Sunday at 10 a.m.
The church is located seven miles south of Vandalia on Carlyle Road.
For more information, call the Rev. Pete LeDuc at 339-1646.

Summer lunches meeting is Wednesday

A volunteer meeting for the Summer Lunches for Kids program will be held next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
Invited to attend the meeting are individuals who are interested in working with the program, which will be in its fifth year.
The mission of the program is to provide children with free and nutritious lunches during the summer months.
Organizers have learned that more than 50 percent of the children in Fayette County schools are eligible for free or reduced lunches during the school year, and offer this program to help families who struggle to serve three meals to their children during the summer.
Last summer, 3,367 lunches were distributed to children in Vandalia, Shobonier, Vera and Ramsey.
In addition to volunteers, who help make the lunches, organizers are looking for donations of creamy peanut butter, grape jelly and cash in order to prepare the individually wrapped sack lunches.
Those who wish to volunteer for or donate to the program but are unable to attend the May 9 meeting are asked to call Pat Rhodes, 283-5372, or Northside Christian Church, 283-1970.
