FUMC Christmas Eve service
First United Methodist Church in Vandalia will be hosting a Christmas Eve worship service on Tuesday.
The evening begins with a mini-concert at 6:30 p.m., followed by a candlelight worship service, featuring scripture readings, Christmas carols and brass accompaniment at 7 p.m.
The Rev. Roger Grimmett will deliver a sermon titled “O Holy Night.”

Christmas meal set at Northside
A free dinner will be served to people in need of fellowship on Christmas day.
Doors will be open at Northside Christian Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Flyers promoting the event say: “This dinner is for anyone who would otherwise be alone on this joyous day. Come and enjoy the food and fellowship as we celebrate the birth of Christ.”
The church is located at 1845 W. Jackson St. (just east of Sunset Drive) in Vandalia. To help ensure that adequate food is prepared, participants are asked to call the church (283-1970) to let organizers know that they are coming.
Live Nativity Scene Dec. 19-23
Crown Point and CenterPoint churches will present a live Nativity Scene at 1616 Veterans Ave. (the former Rural King building) nightly from this Thursday through next Monday.
The free event will be held from 6-8 p.m. It will involve live animals.

Metro to have two services
Metro Community Church will hold two services this Sunday in anticipation of Christmas, one at 9 a.m. and one at 10:45 a.m. The contemporary-style church meets in the gymnasium at Vandalia Junior High School.
Sermon title for this week is "Wonderstruck."
Max Lucado series starts in January at Northside
Northside Christian Church will begin a six-week sermon series on Jan. 5. That series, written by Max Lucado, is titled, "You'll Get Through This!"
The author said the following about the book: "We all face difficult times in our life, and this time of year depression can easily set in. We wonder: 'Where is God? When will God remove all this pain and heartache from my life? Is the sun ever going to shine in my life again?'
"The sermons are designed to bring messages of encouragement and hope to help people
get though this."
The series will be presented at the 9 a.m. service each Sunday.
