Fall dinner Sunday at St. Mary's Church

St. Mary's Church on U.S. Route 40 in St. Elmo will be holding a fall dinner this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The meal will offer a choice of turkey or roast beef, plus all the trimmings.
The price is $8 for adults, $4 for children 5-12 and free for pre-schoolers. Carryouts are available. For more information, call 829-3908.

Veteran's Day service at Northside

Northside Christian Church of Vandalia will be holding a Veteran's Day observance this Friday at 11 a.m.
Veterans and current members of the armed services will be recognized and invited to share their memories. A brief memorial address will be given by the Rev. Carl Rhodes. That will be followed by a time of prayer for our military and our nation's leaders.

FourGiven concert Sunday evening

Brownstown First Christian Church will host a concert by the FourGiven Quartet this Sunday at 6 p.m.
Established in 1992, the founding members of the quartet were Lawrence Brown, Dewayne Brown, Russel Stewart and David Jones. In 2007, Bob Culbertson joined the quartet as a tenor, replacing Jones. Lawrence Brown died in 2010, and he was replaced by Don Arndt.
A finger-food fellowship will follow the concert and an offering will be taken.

Operation Christmas Child collection

Collection dates for Operation Christmas Child are scheduled from Nov. 14-21 at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.
During that week, shoe boxes filled with toys, hygiene items and school supplies will be collected in order to be delivered to needy children by Christmas. Possible items to be included in the boxes include pens, pencils, markers, crayons, paper, coloring books, writing paper, small cars, balls, stuffed animals, jacks, yo-yos, paste, soap, combs, washclothes, hard candy, clothing, ball caps, sunglasses and hair clips.
The collection schedule at the church is: Nov. 14-15 from 5-7 p.m., Nov. 16-17 from 3-5 p.m., Nov. 18 from 5-7 p.m., Nov. 19-20 from noon to 2 p.m. and Nov. 21 from 8-9 a.m.
Last year, the local center collected 1,146 boxes. This year, the goal is 1,200.

Fit Ladies Club to meet at Family YMCA

Beginning this Saturday, the Spirit, Soul & Body Fit Ladies Club will meet every Saturday at the Family YMCA of Fayette County from 10-11 a.m.
The Body Gospel program, which involves dancing and exercising to gospel music, is free of charge. Participants do not need to be a member of the YMCA.
A time of prayer will be held following the class.

St. Peter's turkey supper Sunday, Nov. 20

The annual Turkey Supper and Country Store, sponsored by the women of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, will be held Sunday, Nov. 20, in the St. Peter Lutheran School gymnasium. Serving begins at 5 p.m.
Cost of the meal is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-10 and free for children ages 3 and under. Carryouts are available for 50 cents extra.
The menu consists of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, creamed turnips, desserts and drinks.
Matching funds have been applied for through Thrivent Financial.

'Total Money Makeover' at Northside

Northside Christian Church is presenting Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover" series.
The one-hour classes will meet every Sunday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the church. There is no cost to attend, as material will be provided by the church.
Those who are planning to participate are asked to contact the church (283-1970 or www.northsidecc@att.net) so that enough workbooks can be ordered.
The material will be taught by Wes Rommerskurchen, who has an MBA degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Revival at Cowden Free Methodist

Evangelist John Juneman will be holding revival services this Sunday through Wednesday at the Free Methodist Church in Cowden. He is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, Nazarene Theological Seminary and Fuller Theological Seminary.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. A potluck lunch will be held at noon on Sunday.

Homecoming Gospel Choir concert
The Homecoming Gospel Choir will present a concert this Saturday at 6 p.m. at First Christian Church in Salem. Special guest for the evening will be Allison Durham Speer from Nashville, Tenn.
