Jason Collins concert Sunday at Liberty

Singer Jason Collins of Bloomington will perform in concert this Sunday at 6 p.m. at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown.

Collins has been in a full-time music ministry for the past 11 years, singing a wide range of Christian music.

Brownstown block party to be held Oct. 2

A block party will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, in Brownstown City Park from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Sponsored by First Baptist Church of Brownstown, the event will include activities for all ages, prizes and refreshments.

Assembly of God to offer Ramsey course

First Assembly of God Church will be offering Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, beginning Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.

Ramsey is a financial expert and author of several books about managing your money.

The 13-week series will meet Sundays from 6-8 p.m. at the church, which is located at 1328 N. Seventh St. in Vandalia.

Barbecue, concert Sunday at Northside

Northside Christian Church will hold a fall barbecue this Sunday  at 5 p.m. as the church celebrates the harvest season.

The meal is free, but participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share with others. Following the meal, a concert by the Fourgiven Quartet will begin at 6 p.m.

"We want to celebrate the harvest and all that God has blessed us with," said the Rev. Carl Rhodes.

The church is located at 1845 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia.

Indoor yard sale to benefit shoebox effort

An indoor yard sale will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.

Among the items available will be books, clothing, small appliances, household items and outdoor furniture.

All proceeds will be used to purchase items for additional shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Last year, that program provided 8.2 million shoeboxes to needy children in 108 countries.

 

Local Catholic Daughters’ dance is Saturday

The local Catholic Daughters organization will sponsor a fall dance this Saturday at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church Parish Center in Vandalia.

The dance, which will run from 7-10 p.m., will feature music from "Thunder Road." Admission is $5, with proceeds to support charity work by the local Catholic Daughters organization.

Food will be available, beginning at 6 p.m. It will include sandwiches, pies, chips and soft drinks.

Fall tent revival planned in Patoka Park

The Patoka Ministerial Alliance will host a fall tent revival beginning this Sunday and running through Friday in Patoka Park.

The programs, which begin at 7 p.m., will be sponsored by a different church each night. The scheduled speakers are:

• Sunday – Bruce Kugler, a lawyer from Springfield. Sponsored by First Baptist Church.

• Monday – Mike Rayson, from Australia. Sponsored by  Methodist Church.

• Tuesday – Mike Rayson, from Australia. Sponsored by Methodist Church.

• Wednesday – Jeff Bent, Olney Christian Church. Sponsored by Christian Church.

• Thursday – Andy Dewitt, Salem First Baptist Church. Sponsored by First Baptist Church.

• Friday – Larry Flanary. Sponsored by First United Pentecostal Church.
