Café First at Brownstown church

Café First, a coffee house, will be held for the entire community from 7-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at First Christian Church in Brownstown, located at the corner of First and Poplar streets.
The public is invited to stop by to enjoy a hot drink, breakfast snacks and some company. For more information, call 427-3687.

Egg hunt Saturday in Brownstown

Brownstown First Christian Church will host the annual Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. this Saturday at Brownstown Park.
The egg hunt is open to children ages 2-12. Prizes will be awarded in several age categories, and candy will be given to all participating children. For more information, call the church, 427-3687.

'Twice Adopted'
in Brownstown
 
Brownstown First Christian Church will host special musical group, "Twice Adopted," this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for a special Easter program.
The group is a unique group from Branson, Mo., that is composed of 10 children (eight sisters and two brothers) who have been adopted into one family.
The church is located at the intersection of First and Poplar streets in Brownstown.
Two special Easter Week services will be held this week at St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalial.
The first is a Maundy Thursday service on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The second is a Good Friday service on Friday at 7 p.m.
The church is located at 727 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia.

'Time of Refreshment' at Temple Baptist
 
Temple Baptist Church will be holding a "Time of Refreshment" this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The speaker will be Lee Redfren, and music leaders will be Terry and Cheryl Walters.
The Friday and Saturday services will start at 7 p.m.
The Sunday service will start at 10:30 a.m.

Maundy Thursday event at 1st Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia will present a Maundy Thursday program called "The Disciples" this Thursday at 7 p.m.
The public is invited.

Easter morning egg hunt set at FPC  

First Pentecostal Church of Vandalia will host an Easter egg hunt at 9:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
More than 1,000 candy-filled Easter eggs will be available for children, ages 4-10, to collect.

Augsburg Easter egg coloring contest set

Immanuel Lutheran Church of Augsburg will hold its third annual Easter egg coloring contest this Friday at 1 p.m. at the church parish hall.
The contest is open to young people from pre-school to high school. Prizes, which include gift cards and other items, will be awarded in several age groups.
All coloring supplies will be provided, and all decorating must be done on site.

The church is located four miles east of Shobonier on the St. Peter blacktop.
Northside to hold 'Sonrise' service

Northside Christian Church of Vandalia will hold a "Sonrise" service at 6:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
 The service will be held outside, weather permitting, in the new garden area at the church, which is located at 1845 W. Jackson St.
Immediately following the service, a free breakfast will be served by the men of the church.

Local 'Day of Prayer' activities set

The Vandalia Ministerial Alliance will sponsor its annual National Day of Prayer breakfast on Thursday, May 5.
The event, which runs from 7-8 a.m., will be held at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Home in Vandalia. Speaker for the event will be Dave Bell, publisher of The Leader-Union. Marla Ainscough will provide the music, and Dr. Kevin Childers will serve as emcee.
The theme for the day will be "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," paralleling the theme for the national day of prayer, which is organized by Shirley Dobson.
Locally, the Rev. Roger Grimmett of First United Methodist Church is chairman of the event, with several local pastors and lay representatives serving on a steering committee.
Tickets for the breakfast are $5 each, and are available by calling First United Methodist Church at 283-3684.
As was done last year, this year's local observance will include activities on the days leading up to the national day of prayer:
• Sunday, May 1, from 6-7 p.m. – Community worship service on the grounds of the Vandalia Statehouse to kick off the week. The Rev. Carl Rhodes will give a brief message, and a time of prayer for the upcoming week's activities will be held.
• Monday, May 2, 7:45-8 a.m. – Prayer at Vandalia City Hall.
• Tuesday, May 3, 7:45-8 a.m. – Prayer at Vandalia Community High School gymnasium.
• Wednesday, May 4, 7:45-8 a.m. – Prayer at Fayette County Courthouse.
• Thursday, May 5, 7-8 a.m. – National Day of Prayer Breakfast at the Crawford-Hale American Legion Home in Vandalia.
After the breakfast on Thursday, a prayer time will be held at 9 a.m. for residents at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care. It will be led by the Rev. Joe Lawson.
In addition, the Association of Christian Truckers ministry (located at the Brownstown exit of Interstate 70) will be open for prayer all week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
