Chamber holding Cardinals Dinner

The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first-ever Cardinals Baseball Dinner on Saturday, March 4, at the Vandalia American Legion Home.
In honor of the 35th anniversary of the 1982 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, featured guests will be Ken Oberkfell and Glenn Brummer, members of that team.
The evening begins with a ballpark menu dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with the ballplayers at 7 p.m. The program concludes with an autograph session.
Oberkfell, the starting third baseman on the 1982 Redbirds, hit .278 over a 16-year major league career. He also appeared in the 1989 World Series as a member of the San Francisco Giants.
Brummer was a backup catcher for the 1982 champs, but was involved in one of the defining moments of the season. On Aug. 22 of that year, he stole home with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Cardinals a 5-4 win over the Giants. Brummer had only four career stolen bases.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for those 18 and younger. The ticket price includes the program, meal and one autograph from each player.
Attendees are encouraged to take their own items to get signed; however, a limited number of baseball cards will be available that night.
For tickets, contact the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce at 431-2281 or by email at vandaliachamber@gmail.com.
